Dune Fields
This proposal for a family home is located in the vegetated dune fields the coast in Betty's Bay. The views are framed by dramatic range of Cape Fold mountains to the North and the Indian Ocean to the South. The design for this home is a simple low slung linear nautical steel frame barn with aluminium roof which straddles a open plan pavilion building with ecological pool and protected deck. The house responds to the changing seasonal and daily climatic conditions allowing flexible use by its owners. Passive principles are used to shape the envelope of the home which calmly provides respite from the harsh coastal climatic conditions and orientation. Natural lighting, and ventilation, Solar PV energy, rainwater harvesting and natural, durable, non toxic materials develop the sustainable performance of this home.
