Lookout House

This epic pristine site is located on a precipitous cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean, just outside of George. This rugged family home is carefully sited to follow the contour of the headland. The harsh marine conditions, cool southerly winds, expansive coastal views, coastal thicket and fynbos vegetation, climatic conditions, experiential and spacial qualities of the landscape collectively shaped the idea for the home.
The linear home nestles on the cliff edge, opening up to the ocean, and providing a warm sheltered space on the landward side. A simple, durable, local, natural and sustainable palette of structural elements and materials have been integrated for this unique home.
